Our lovely friends from the Bog Squad, part of Butterfly Conservation, joined locals and group members to birch pull on 26th January 2025. It was a very pleasant day to be on the Moss and working co-operatively as a team. We cleared about 1400 square meters as measured by Polly using some wizardry on her phone. Marje came along at lunch time with hot fruit crumbles outdoing herself by bringing custard too. It was her birthday so we sang her the usual song in celebration. Fuelled by this we kept going a bit longer than usual.
My personal record over the last three months was poor compared to this time last year. Nevertheless I kept on going, with support from my partner, who is an expert at severing tree roots. My tallies for December to February were: Number of trees removed: 1,039 of the following species: 923 birch / 112 spruce / scots pine 1 / rowan 1 / and 2 willow.
